Guide to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 Characters
With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 releasing this week, we decided to put together a list of the characters you will see in the movie. Trust us, there are quite a few of them and you might want to read up on them before going for the movie and sitting dumbfounded. As expected from most comic book movies, the characters are quite different from the comic counterparts.
1. Star Lord - Chris Pratt
The leader of the Guradians of the Galaxy, Star Lord (Peter Quill), is the only human in the team and was abducted by the Ravagers from Earth (or Terra). His quest for the Orb in the first movie is what gathered the team together. After the battle of Xandar, Quill left with the Guardians to do "a little bit of bad and a little bit of good".
2. Gamora - Zoe Saldana
A former assassin and the adopted daughter of the Mad Titan Thanos, Gamora was initally tasked to steal the Orb as well. Over the course of the GOTG1, she met Peter and the rest of the Guardians and later revealed her plan of destroying Thanos himself with the Orb. Post the battle of Xandar, she joined up with the Guardians.
3. Drax - Dave Bautista
Nicknamed Drax the Destroyer, Drax is a former intergalactic criminal who sought revenge on Ronan the Accuser for murdering his family. Drax met and created an uneasy relationship with the team at Kyln, the Intergalatic Space Prison run by the Nova Corps. He later broke out of the prison with the team and continued on with the team.
4. Rocket Racoon - Bradley Cooper
Codenamed 89P13, Rocket Racoon is a genetically enhanced raccoon turned freelance criminal. Often found with his partner Groot, Rocket used to travel the galaxy collecting bounties before he met Quill, and got pulled into the Quest for the Orb. He later corrects his ways and risks everything to save Xandar. He later joins Quill and the team.
5. Groot - Vin Diesel
Groot is a sentient, tree-like individual and frequent accomplice of Rocket Racoon. Capable of manipulating his tree like body, Groot was initially the muscle for Rocket and then for the team. During the battle at Xandar, he sacrifices himself, but later survives as a small plant. In GOTG Vol2, we get to see a young Groot, who is yet to grow to his full size.
6. Ego The Living Planet - Kurt Russel
Not much is known about Ego, except for the fact that he is a Celestial and Peter Quill's father. One of the most important characters in the movie, Ego reportedly comes looking for the Guardians after hearing about their sucess in Xandar.
7. Nebula - Karen Gillian
Another assassin and the adopted daughter of Thanos, Nebula is a Luphomoid and is Gamora's adopted sister. She served as Ronan's right hand during the Quest for the Orb, but will join her sister in GOTG Vol 2.
8. Yondu Udonta - Micheal Rooker
A Centaurian and the leader of the Ravagers, Yondu was responsible for abducting Peter Quill from Earth. His original mission was to deliver Quill to his father, but Yondu decided to take him under his wing and bring him up as his own. He eventually teamed up with the Guardians at the battle of Xandar.
9. Mantis - Pom Klementiff
A new member of the team, Mantis is a young empathetic woman raised by Ego. She usually helps him with her powers, which includes reading emotions, manupilating emotions and inducing sleep.
10. Stakar Ogord - Sylvester Stallone
Not much is known about Stakar Ogord as well. All the hints point at this character being a legendary captain of the Ravagers.
